A Ki-uso (木うそ)
A ceramic version of the Ki-uso, the traditional Japanese bullfinch amulet that turns the past year’s lies and bad luck into good fortune and truth. Handmade by Natalia in Barcelona, and one of a kind.
A Ki-uso (木うそ) is a traditional Japanese wooden amulet carved in the shape of a bullfinch, or uso. It plays a central role in Shinto winter rituals, serving as a lucky charm meant to turn the past year’s lies, secrets and bad luck into good fortune and truth.
This piece is Natalia’s ceramic version of the charm. Instead of carved wood, the bullfinch is shaped and painted by hand in clay, with its red face, open wings, small flowers and the characters 天神 on its front. Because it is handmade, slight variations in the glaze and color are part of its character, and there is only one of this exact piece.
